What is an eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital SIM profile stored in a compatible phone, tablet or wearable. It can connect the device to a mobile network without inserting a separate plastic SIM card.
For travel, you normally buy a data plan online, receive an installation link or QR code, add the profile and choose it for mobile data after arrival.
Does every phone support eSIM?
No. Support depends on the exact device model, sales region and carrier lock. Check the model number in the manufacturer’s documentation and confirm that the phone is unlocked before buying a plan.
When should you install and activate it?
Installation and activation are not always the same event. Some plans start when installed, others on first network connection. Read the provider’s instructions before scanning the QR code and keep a copy available offline.
Is an eSIM better than roaming?
It can be cheaper or more flexible, but not automatically. Compare the complete travel eSIM terms with your home operator’s roaming package, including calls, hotspot, speed limits and support.
