Samsung and NTT Transatel prepare eSIM bootstrap connectivity for Galaxy Z
New Galaxy Z phones in the US are set to gain mobile connectivity during initial setup without relying on Wi-Fi. Launch timing and participating channels remain undisclosed.

Galaxy Z setup is getting its own first connection
NTT Transatel announced on 2 September that it is working with Samsung to add eSIM bootstrap connectivity to the latest Galaxy Z series in the United States. The new setup path is intended to give a phone a mobile connection from first power-on, including in places where Wi-Fi is unavailable, so activation, device setup and mobile-service enrollment can continue.
The companies list secure activation and authentication, 4G and 5G access, carrier enrollment and connectivity for software updates and service activation. Their stated aim is to remove the early dead zone in which a new phone needs a network connection before it can finish obtaining or enabling its normal service.
Bootstrap connectivity is not an eSIM transfer promise
This feature addresses a different step from moving an existing subscription between phones. NTT Transatel describes its bootstrap product as an initial connection that supports remote provisioning of the operational carrier profile. It creates a route into setup; it does not establish that a customer's old eSIM will automatically move to the Galaxy Z.
The practical benefit is less dependence on shop, home or public Wi-Fi during onboarding. The eventual mobile subscription still depends on the operator, offer and participating sales channel, and the announcement does not promise access to every carrier plan.
The first rollout is limited to US Galaxy Z devices
Samsung and NTT Transatel say the enhanced experience will be introduced first on the latest Galaxy Z series in the United States, across participating retail and self-service channels. They also plan to extend it to selected future Galaxy smartphones.
The release does not identify exact Galaxy Z models, retailers, carriers or states. It also omits a launch date, so the announcement is not proof that every newly sold Samsung foldable in the US can already use the bootstrap path.
Data allowance, price and failure handling are still unknown
The official pages do not state how long the initial connection lasts, how much data it includes, which networks provide it, whether a buyer pays for it or what happens after a failed activation. They also leave open whether carrier-locked and unlocked devices will follow the same process.
eSIM.press has not tested a current Galaxy Z or completed this activation flow. The verified scope is limited to the announced first-boot eSIM connectivity, the initial US rollout and the companies' plan to expand the experience to selected future devices.
