Can you use a hotspot with a travel eSIM?
A hotspot option on the phone does not prove that a plan allows tethering. Check the device, package terms and the line carrying the data.
The short answer
Tethering works only when three conditions align: the phone can create a hotspot, the provider and underlying network do not block it, and the selected plan permits hotspot or tethering use. A visible settings button confirms device capability, not the commercial terms of a particular package.
Before purchase, look for an explicit reference to hotspot, tethering, Personal Hotspot or data sharing. “Unlimited data” does not answer the question. When the condition is not published, eSIM.press records it as unconfirmed rather than assuming permission or prohibition.
Checks before a work-critical connection
Confirm the full-speed allowance and whether tethering has a separate cap. A permitted hotspot can consume a daily allowance quickly because a laptop may download updates, synchronise cloud files and transfer backups in the background. The post-limit speed and reset period matter as much as the headline allowance.
On the phone, verify that mobile data is assigned to the travel eSIM. Enable the hotspot, set a password and connect one device. Pause automatic updates and cloud backups, run a short test and inspect usage in the seller app or the phone's data statistics.
Why the option can disappear or lack internet
Apple says Personal Hotspot availability depends on carrier enablement and plan support. Google documents the Pixel feature, but that does not override mobile-plan rules. If the menu is missing, check plan support and carrier settings. If a hotspot exists but has no internet, also verify the data line, roaming, APN and remaining allowance.
Trying to bypass a published restriction through unofficial settings can breach service terms and make usage unpredictable. When laptop access is essential, choose a plan with explicit tethering permission and numerical fair-use terms rather than relying on a general marketing claim.
