What happened

Motorola announced Global Connect on 1 July 2026. The Gigs-powered application lets users buy and activate travel data directly on a compatible Motorola smartphone.

It launched through Google Play in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Peru and Chile, with plans for preinstallation on compatible devices and expansion to selected European markets later in 2026.

How Global Connect works

The user opens the app, chooses a destination and data allowance, pays for the package and installs the eSIM. Motorola and Gigs say the profile only needs to be installed once and can be reused by adding packages for later destinations.

A compatible Motorola phone with eSIM support is required.

What is confirmed

Global Connect runs on the Gigs platform and claims coverage in more than 160 countries. Eligible users can receive a limited promotional 1 GB data allowance.

The app is available in five Latin American markets, and later European expansion has been announced. The free package applies only to compatible devices and users who meet the offer conditions.

What remains unknown

Motorola has not published a complete supported-model list, paid-plan prices, the European country list or precise rollout dates.

Availability for users in Russia is not confirmed. Hardware eSIM support alone does not guarantee that the Global Connect app is available in the user’s Google Play region.

Why it matters

The launch moves travel eSIM from a separate product toward a built-in device feature. Similar integrations already appear in banking and travel applications.

Embedding connectivity in the phone can reduce the need to find a separate seller, install another app and add a new profile for each country. It also gives device makers another service within their ecosystem.

What it means for users

Before relying on Global Connect, check the exact Motorola model, app availability in the account region, destination coverage, data allowance, validity and eligibility for the promotional 1 GB.

The free data is a temporary launch offer rather than a permanent tariff. Package availability, pricing and offer conditions may change.
